Tom Germain (He/Him) is an Instructor and Educational Technology Coordinator at the International English Center. Tom earned an MA TESOL degree from the SIT Graduate Institute in Brattleboro, Vermont, and a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. Tom began his teaching career in 1995 in Tokyo, Japan. Since returning to Colorado in 2000, he has taught at intensive English programs in the Denver-Ãå±±½ûµØ area, but his favorite place to teach so far is the IEC! His professional areas of interest include student-centered learning, effective feedback, vocabulary building strategies, harnessing technology to promote learning, and finding ways to support authentic communication in the classroom. Currently, Tom is earning a second master’s degree in Instructional Design and Learning Design & Technology with the University of Colorado Denver. He was actively involved for over nine years in CoTESOL (), an important affiliate of TESOL International. He proudly served as CoTESOL’s President in 2018 and as the Executive Secretary and Treasurer of the organization until 2022. Tom has presented at a variety of professional development conferences, including COLTT, CoTESOL, English USA, and others, and he continues to build on his graduate research which applied principles of systems theory to the context of language learning. Tom enjoys being active and staying healthy. His hobbies include long-distance trail running, windsurfing, cycling, lap swimming, indoor rock climbing, learning languages, and writing, recording and playing music – lots of music – on the piano, electric bass, and drums.
