Upcoming Roadway and Sidewalk Closure on 18th Street between Broadway and Euclid – June 2 to August 1, 2025 Nancy Portner Wed, 05/21/2025 - 13:17

During a campus waterline replacement project, 18th Street between Broadway and Euclid will undergo phased closures for new waterline installation and roadway restoration.

Proposed construction schedule (subject to change based on field conditions):

From June 2 to July 11 the southbound lane from Lot 204 to Broadway will be closed (one northbound lane will remain open to allow access into Lot 204 and the Wardenburg lot).

From July 11 to July 25 there will be phased closures of 18th Street to allow access to lots 204, 310 and 325. Various traffic patterns will be utilized; vehicles and pedestrians should follow posted signage in and around the construction zone.

From July 26 to August 1, there will be a complete closure of 18th Street from Broadway to Euclid. There will be no access to lots 204, 310 and 324 during this phase. Folks needing vehicle access to Wardenburg during this time will need to access Wardenburg Drive via Colorado Ave (lot 360 entrance) to Libby Drive to Baker Drive to Wardenburg Drive.

Sidewalks in the area will also be closed during construction. Impacted buildings include Music, Wardenburg, CASE, and parking lots 204 and 310. Please refer to posted signage and reroute maps for CU Buff Bus summer service.

The Center for Community (C4C) parking garage (Lot 327) will be closed for annual power washing and cleaning. The entire garage will be inaccessible, including fire alarms and elevators, from 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30 until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 8. Permit holders are advised to park in the alternative parking lot 436 (Regent Garage and north lot) during this period. Construction of the Colorado Highway 119 Safety, Mobility and Bikeway Improvements Project has started and will be ongoing through 2027. Once complete, the corridor will have improved bike and bus facilities, and safer and more efficient intersections for all users. In the short term, The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) , the Regional Transportation District (RTD) and �山�� County will be working together to mitigate traffic congestion, delays and crashes and expand transportation options throughout this project. Your usual travel route may be impacted by construction, traffic delays and increased congestion throughout the project.

Immediate impacts:

Niwot Park-n-ride lot will close temporarily, but bus stops will remain active.
Bus stops at north and southbound CO 119 and bus stops at CO 52 (near IBM) will close beginning Sept. 29.
Additionally, there will be lane closures at various times near the following intersections: Jay Road, CO 52, 71st Street, Niwot Road, Oxford Road, 83rd Street, and Airport and Connector roads

The city of �山�� has implemented changes to the lanes on Colorado Avenue that may affect your daily commute. These improvements are part of a broader effort to create a safer and more efficient transportation system for our entire community, and they are expected to strengthen the connection between Main Campus and East Campus.

What’s happening?

In June, the city converted the outside vehicle lanes on Colorado Avenue to bus and right-turn lanes between Folsom Street and 30th Street. This change, which includes the use of signage and red street markings to designate the bus lanes, aligns with the recommendations of the 2019 30th Street and Colorado Avenue Corridors Study.

How will this affect you?

For bus riders: If you ride the bus, these changes are designed to shorten your travel times by reducing delays due to traffic congestion. This improvement benefits nearly 12,000 daily bus riders who use Buff Bus service along the Colorado Avenue corridor.
For drivers:Please use the inside lanes for through traffic on Colorado Avenue, as the outside lanes are now designated for buses only. Right turns at side streets and driveways are still permitted from the bus lanes.
During events:Please follow instructions provided by those directing traffic at large events on campus, including concerts, football games and conferences.

Future plans and ongoing efforts

�山�� remains committed to collaborating on further improvements in the future, including potential changes between 30th Street and Discovery Drive. The city’s 30th Street Multimodal Improvements Project, expected to be completed in early 2025, will enhance the area between Colorado Avenue and Arapahoe Avenue with protected bike lanes, wider sidewalks and new landscaping. In summer 2025, �山��’s Pavement Management Program will repave Colorado Avenue between Folsom Street and 30th Street.

Campus construction on Regent Drive near the Coors Events Center may cause delays to Buff Buses and other traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regent Drive will be reduced to one lane during these hours, and flaggers will be directing traffic. Please plan accordingly, as you may need to leave early to arrive on time.

Construction has begun for the on campus Limelight Hotel �山��. The Limelight Conference Center and Hotel at the 1400 block of Broadway will fill the gap in large conference space in the City of �山��. With approximately 250 rooms and a 15,000-square-foot ballroom, the project will bring a unique venue to the community, capable of hosting events of all sizes, from prominent academic and research conferences to small community gatherings. It will provide a space for innovation and collaboration both locally and internationally.

The project website includes renderings and FAQs, and will provide ongoing updates on construction.
